What is the layout of BBK?

Our kennels are designed into two wings;
The left wing is the Green dog side & the right wing is the Orange/Red dog side.
Green = playful with all dogs
Orange= Playful with some breeds but not others
Red= Not good with other dogs

How does play or exercise time work?

Note; All play sessions are supervised!

Every dog gets a minimum 2 hours of social/exercise time everyday.The process looks different depending on which coloured category your dog falls under. Depending on the breeds, temperaments and age of the dogs we navigate fun yet safe play sessions for all dogs.

Green dogs are rotated into the left wing play area every 30 minutes.
For example; Golden Retrievers have a lot of energy, however a small Jack Russel has just as much energy but might feel a little intimidated by the sheer size of the Retrievers. In this instance we would place all small green dogs in the small dog play area and the big dogs in the left wing play zone!

Orange dogs are rotated into the right wing play area every 30 minutes.
For example; Lou is an old Border Collie who doesn't like being jumped on or sniffed too much, Rosie is an old shiatsu who likes personal space. Lou and Rosie would work perfectly in their own playgroup as they can stretch their legs, sniff & play ball knowing that they won't get on each others nerves.

Red dogs; as they don't get any social time with dogs their social time is with humans instead! Our red dogs get priority of walks. Each dog receiving a minimum 15 minute walk around the one hundred acre Aspen's Farm exploring the paddocks, creeks and single trails. We then rotate them every 20 minutes into the right wing play area to play ball & stretch their legs.

What are bone broth ice blocks?
Bone broth is a nutrient dense water based broth rich in calcium, magnesium, collagen and many other nutrient dense vitamins and minerals. At BBK our locally sourced handmade beef and lamb bone broth includes rosemary (antioxidant) & celtic sea salt (natural electrolyte). We believe that bone broth aids in joint pain, boosts the immune system and nourishes dogs with healing electrolytes. Perfect for a hot day! Purchase at online checkout in 'extras' or when dropping off your furry friend.

My dog is only 12months old and can be quiet boisterous. I don't want him to irritate other dogs, how do you work around this?

During playtime we would pick an older alpha dog and an array of similar tempered dogs. Using the natural 'pack' mentality instincts the alpha gently keeps all the dogs in line. This gives younger dogs the opportunity to have a mentor so that they can learn right from wrong from the alpha and from each other.

My dog is really old, she loves all dogs but gets tired and craves human affection; how can I trust that she will be well looked after?

Our indoor office sanctuary was built with older dogs in mind! With a couch, blankets & a dog bed this space is ideal for your older furry friend to retreat to. When us humans have tuckered out the other dogs, we love to join the older dogs for a cuddle on the couch to chill us out!

How does playtime work for cats?
The cat sanctuary is an enclosed room with five individual kennels. We rotate each cat for 40 minutes into the enclosed room for them to explore & stretch their legs! Note; if your cat cannot be caught or easily lead back into the kennels with treats we do not advise this.

Do cats get cuddle time?

Yes!! We love cats, any excuse for a cuddle in the cat sanctuary we jump at!

What feed do you provide for the animals?

For dogs - BlackHawk Lamb & Rice twice a day.
For cats - Whiskas or Felix dry or wet food. We have a variety due to cats being picky.

My two dogs get along great besides during feeding time, how do you manage this considering they will be sharing a kennel?

During feeding time dogs are placed into their individual kennels. If dogs are sharing a kennel in this instance we place one dog in the kennel whilst the other remains in the play area with a staff member playing ball or enjoying a cuddle. This keeps the dog distracted from any negative behavior that could be provoked by food.

Do you walk dogs on or off the lead?

Our rule of thumb is;
Always keep dogs on lead!

My dog tends to overheat, how do you manage this?

Our kennels are built with sandstone. Sandstone has excellent thermal characteristics, making it an ideal natural building insulator. Its high thermal mass aids in temperature regulation, decreasing the need for excessive heating or cooling. If your dog is still overheating we provide splash pools in the play areas & you can purchase $5 bone broth ice blocks upon booking!

My furry friend has personal medication...

Yes we can provide your dog or cats prescribed medication.

Red dogs rule of thumb;

Staffordshire Bull Terrior & Working Breeds almost always fall under the Red dog category. Due to their innate instinct to protect their human/heard we take no risks and opt to give them human love. Again it all depends on the dog; runts and calm tempered dogs of these breeds are around and we strive to connect, understand & then match the dog to the kennel best suited!

Note; we do not take dogs that are not friendly with humans.
